A LITTLE ABOUT US

Rivergate Church is all about empowering people to live like Jesus, so that every place will look like His place. We do that by creating opportunities for our partners to engage Four Core Passions of Jesus, and then providing SEA (Support, Encouragement, and Accountability) as they progress in their journey of living the full Christ-life.

We were founded as an Assembly of God fellowship in the 1940’s in Houston, TX. In 1960, a church-planting team founded a second campus here in Bryan, TX. Over the decades, the members of the church continually hungered for powerful moves of the Holy Spirit. Salvations, baptisms, deliverances, miracles, and signs and wonders have been a regular experience. We changed our name to Rivergate Church in 2012 to reflect a more contemporary style of ministry and in 2015 peaceably left the Assemblies of God in a spirit of honor to become a non-denominational church.

Through the years, Rivergate has always been a vibrant and joyful member of the body of Christ at large in the Brazos Valley, actively spreading the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ by supporting, participating, and networking with local ministries throughout our community. We remain committed to pressing into the supernatural presence of God, which empowers us to reflect His glory and reach unchurched families and college students in the region with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ.

THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s revelation to humanity; the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12).

THE TRINITY

Our Creator and King eternally exists as one God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3; Hebrews 1:1-3).

JESUS

The Heavenly Father sent His Son, Jesus, who being fully God and fully man became our ultimate advocate. He subjected Himself to the violence of the cross, paying the price for all sins for all time. After being buried, He was bodily resurrected on the third day, triumphing over sin, death, and all dark powers. (Isaiah 7:14, 9:7; Luke 1:26-38, 2:1-20, 24:1-53; Romans 4:25; 5:6-8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-57).

HOLY SPIRIT

The present-day work of the Holy Spirit not only seals and cleanses, but it also empowers the Church. Believers are invited to experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit, along with a multiplicity of other spiritual gifts, as He leads and guides us into all truth, helping us to personnaly realize and activate the life Jesus died to provide. (John 14:26; 16:13-15; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; 4:30; Romans 8:11; 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:11; 12:1-11; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 2:3-4).

MANKIND

Humanity was formed in God’s image to reflect His authority and purposes in the earth (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:7; Psalm 8:4-8; 115:16). Nevertheless, we, the creation, rebelled against our Creator-Father (Genesis 3:1-24; Luke 3:38). Sin not only opened the door to evil, it created a separation from God that is impossible for man to overcome (Romans 5:12-14; Ephesians 2:3).

THE KINGDOM AND SALVATION

The Kingdom of God came in the ministry of the Messiah, who is the Door and Gateway through which we enter by faith. This enables us to be born anew and enjoy the gift of salvation. The Kingdom continues to unfold in the ministry of the Holy Spirit through us, the Church, and will be consummated at the literal, physical return of Jesus (Isaiah 9:7-8; Matthew 10:7-8; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 11:20; John 10:9-16; Romans 5:17; 2 Timothy 2:11-12) At the final judgment, God will resurrect the righteous and transform all of creation (Romans 2:4-10; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Philippians 3:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). All who reject God’s love, along with satan and his wicked cohorts, will be cast into the lake of fire (Matthew 13:41; John 12:31; Revelation 19:20-21; 20:10,14). Everything within all the cosmos will be made new (2 Corinthians 5:17; Hebrews 12:27; Revelation 21:5).

ETERNAL LIFE

We believe in the resurrection of believers into everlasting life and blessing in Heaven and the resurrection of unbelievers into the torments of Hell. (John 3:16; John 5:24; Mark 9:43-48; 2 Thess. 1:9; Rev. 20:10-15; John 5:28-29; 1 Cor.15:51-52)

RETURN OF JESUS

We believe in the personal, literal, and bodily return of Jesus Christ in power and glory as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (1 Thess. 4:13-18; Zech. 14:5; Matt. 24:27, 30; Rev.1:7; Rev. 19:11-14; Rev. 20:1-6)

THE CHURCH

The Church is a vibrant community of believers who actively worship, pray, and fellowship as they apply the Bible to their lives. They are a unique channel of God’s initiatives here on earth, privileged to advance His cause and operate in His power on behalf of His will. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:14-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 4:11-16; 12:13, 27-28; 14:12; Ephesians 2:19-22).
